Beasts among us.
There seems to be a bit of a tizzy going about downtown as a man comes racing into a bar. He seems half crazed and is trying to bark out words between gasping for air and sucking in gulps of breath. The scene obviously gathers are a small crowd of interested on lookers, wondering what could have worked someone into such a state. Finally, after several minutes he manages to be calm enough that he was exploring up in the woods and stumbled upon what appeared to be a horde of fire based creatures migrating. Thankfully, he was able to stay far enough back and track them to the entrance of a cave. Upon finding himself looking upon the cave monsters seemed to rise up from every crack, crevasse and shadow, making their way towards the dark opening in the mountain's exterior. It was almost as if some siren's song had drawn the monsters in hordes from far and wide, lulling them to this singular location. Before the man had time to think, to consider exploring further, a booming roar ripped through the air, echoing from deep within the cave as flames seemed to lick the air, hazing vision and warping perception. If that hadn't been enough to send him running off glowing red embers of eyes had finalized the trick before another booming roar shot out of the cave once again with flames flickering around feet and wrists, leaving shadows thrown across the far wall, displaying a monstrous beast standing three times the size of a man.
The story leaves those around the pub who had bothered to listen in a mix of emotions. Some seem to dismiss the notions, finding this nothing more than the story of a madman, someone who's spent far too much time outside, baking in the sun's rays. Others seem wary of the story, unsure of how to next act.
However, one man in the crowd does step forward, putting down a heavy fist on the table nearest to the still recovering messenger. This man is well dressed, apparently upper class of some form and clearing his throat while adjusting his cufflinks he begins to speak.
"If there is a fire beast amongst our lands, it must be dealt with swiftly before it brings harm to the forest or the people. Anyone who can bring me proof of this beast, alive or dead, will be rewarded handsomely."
The Fire Cave
Upon reaching the opening, as described by the previously frantic man, our adventurers will notice that near the opening to the cave it is easily ten to fifteen degrees warmer than back in the forest. Inside this case there are various fire based monsters (Bomb
, Fire Elemental
, and other monsters who use fire~). Most travel in packs of 2-4 and will swiftly attack anything they deem to be a threat to their territory. When Bombs are getting close to being dead, if they are not destroyed in one final blow, they will explode, causing double the normal amount of damage than a standard attack.
Back in the far reaches of the cave down in a dead end can be found the mighty beast Ifrit
, standing on a small elevated area of ragged rock that has lava flowing all around it. (Please reference the bottom left of the Cave Map.
) Ifrit will attack with powerful fire based magics and unleash his special ability, HellFire, when given the chance. This attack can hit all enemies and can potentially inflict those hit with the 'slow
' status. This will cause the character to be slowed down physical and unable to preform actions at a normal speed. This will make it harder for them the character to get out of the way of the HellFire blasts as well. If you want your character to get hit with a slow status feel free to do so, or if you'd like to have it randomized please ask a mod to roll for you. Getting through the cave and the fight with Ifrit can incur a damage roll if the player wishes, please let the mod know if you would like to have a damage roll done.
Every character involved in the combat will be allowed to pick a number 1-20. Please do not repeat numbers. The person closest to the "special number" will get a special prize after the fight. Those that come in second and third will also obtain 'above average' rewards. Feel free to go wild with explaining awesome things your character does during the cave crawl or explaining how they got the injuries they did.
